UTH10 is a structural attachment used in fire sprinkler sway brace systems. It connects the brace pipe to the building structure, providing a fixed point that resists lateral and longitudinal movement during seismic events. When combined with a compatible structural fitting and bracing pipe, it forms a complete assembly that meets NFPA 13 standards.
The component is designed with practicality in mind. One size accommodates braced pipe up to 8 inches, which covers most common pipe schedules including Sch 10, Sch 40, GB/T 3091 and JIS G3454. This eliminates the need to stock multiple sizes for different pipe diameters, simplifying inventory management for contractors and distributors.
The UTH10 is cast from ductile iron QT450, a material known for its strength and impact resistance. Unlike grey iron, ductile iron offers better elongation and fatigue resistance, which matters in applications where vibration and seismic forces are present.
The electro-galvanized finish adds a layer of corrosion protection. It is not meant for continuous outdoor exposure but performs well in typical indoor environments, mechanical rooms, parking garages and sheltered areas. Installation follows a straightforward sequence. The base part is first secured to the building structure using M12x60 bolts. Recommended installation torque is between 50 and 65 N·M. A 1-inch SCH40 brace pipe is then connected to the base. The final step involves tightening the shear bolt until the head breaks off. This break-off feature confirms that correct torque has been reached, eliminating the need for torque wrenches during field installation.
The shear bolt design also serves as a tamper-evident indicator. Once the bolt head is sheared off, inspectors can quickly verify that the connection has been properly tightened.
